Why Spray Foam Insulation Should Be Used In Your Home

by Jill Jenkins

If you have seen spray foam insulation sold in home improvement stores or used on television, you might have found yourself wondering if it is indeed something your home could benefit from. To help you decide whether this is something you should purchase and install, you will want to take a few moments to review the following points.

It Seals Cracks Where Bugs Can Get In

While you may never be able to completely rid your house of all insects, you can dramatically reduce the amount of bugs that make their way in by sealing all of the cracks that you come across. Look for cracks or gaps in the foundation of your home, as well as gaps around your doors and windows. Even the smallest of cracks need to be sealed with some spray foam insulation in order to prevent the tiniest of bugs from crawling through into the warmth of your home. Just remember while you are spraying the insulation foam into the small cracks that this stuff rapidly expands before it dries and hardens.

It Makes Your Home More Energy Efficient

If you would like to improve the energy efficiency of your home, you will want to make sure that you are adding spray foam insulation behind your walls. Even if rolls of fiberglass insulation was originally installed between your walls, you can still have the spray foam insulation added. Over time, the rolls of fiberglass insulation can flatten and even fall down towards the floor instead of staying stretched out over the height and width of your walls. This means air from the outside might be able to push its way in and your heated or cooled air form the inside can escape. This means that not only will you and your family stay much more comfortable, but you will not have to deal with steadily increasing heating and cooling bills.

Helps Reduce Noise Pollution

If you would like to keep the outside noise outside and not have to hear the kids video games so clearly, then you may want to consider adding spray foam insulation behind your walls. This type of insulation helps reduce the amount of noise that moves through the walls because it hardens and becomes a solid. It is much harder for the sound waves to make its way through the solid material than it would for it to make it through some old fiberglass rolls of insulation.

With just those few things in mind, you should have no trouble seeing how beneficial it would be to have spray foam insulation for your home.
